Don’t let Tahoe in August pass you by

The clarity of the lake will astound you, the outdoor options endless, and as most folks know, it’s prime time right now. It never gets too hot here, in summer it’s just right, and the romantic rustle of the pines let you know you are in the High Sierra.

We like to swim at Kiva Beach, about 15 minutes from the Black Bear. Our two favorite kayaking spots are Emerald Bay, about an hour paddle and Sand Harbor, more of a drive but if you get there early…..fairytale….where all the promo shots of the Lake are always taken.

Then there’s the Lake Tahoe for hikers.  Desolation Wildnerness is just up the road and the Tahoe Rim Trail is a half hour away. Bike trails are ten minutes away and we like the ride to Richardson’s Bay.  Yes, we’re all about location at our cabin and you’ll appreciate being close to shopping too.

Tahoe spring/summer heating up

Planning ahead is always a good thing. Especially for Tahoe where summer months are the most popular and close-to-lake locations are hard to come by.  Black Bear Lodge Tahoe is situated on a big sunny meadow, close to the Upper Truckee River, a 10 minute drive to the Lake. If hiking is your thing, trails are less than a half hour. The bike path that circles the lake is 10 minutes away. Shopping is super close too.

To sum it up, yes, we’ve got the best location. If you choose not to drive, the bus is a 5 minute walk.

The Seasons Are Changing: Tahoe Time

Upper Truckee River Tahoe

The willows are just starting to turn and a few windows of warm weather are revolving in and out. Some days wading the Upper Truckee is still within reach while others bring a nip to the air.  Tip:  be prepared for both and bring your cold weather gear.

Hiking and biking couldn’t be better. The summer crowds are gone and bike path lanes are pretty clear all the way to Kiva Beach.  Hiking trails, superb. Willows turning gold.
