Day’s end on the Lake

The ever-changing Lake Tahoe. A great place to experience it is on the water. Rent a kayak, a canoe, or go for a ride on a gondola or the M.S. Dixie paddlewheel. The views of the craggy Sierra are breathtaking.

Most visitors can only get away for a three day weekend and so many say they wish they could have stayed longer. Take that as a bit of advice.. Book enough time to get invigorated or if down time is your choice, super relaxed.

Heavenly is opening up a new Ridge Rider Roller Coaster that promises to be pretty exciting or get your boots on and hike the famous Tahoe Rim Trail. It’s all within twenty minutes from the Black Bear.

“No other words other than outstanding! We rented the cabin for the weekend for a South Lake Tahoe get away. Came with 4 humans and 2 dogs. There is an open space (not fenced) behind the house where dogs loved running amuck. It’s tucked away in a quiet, clean neighborhood, felt very safe at night. It’s a fantastic location only 15 minutes from Heavenly resort and close to numerous restaurants/stores. Turnkey made this a really easy rental process, kept me updated via text and email with rental details including updating me with a complimentary late check out time. The clarity of the lake will astound you, the outdoor options endless, and as most folks know, it’s prime time right now. It never gets too hot here, in summer it’s just right, and the romantic rustle of the pines let you know you are in the High Sierra.

We like to swim at Kiva Beach, about 15 minutes from the Black Bear. Our two favorite kayaking spots are Emerald Bay, about an hour paddle and Sand Harbor, more of a drive but if you get there early…..fairytale….where all the promo shots of the Lake are always taken.

Then there’s the Lake Tahoe for hikers. Desolation Wildnerness is just up the road and the Tahoe Rim Trail is a half hour away. Bike trails are ten minutes away and we like the ride to Richardson’s Bay. Yes, we’re all about location at our cabin and you’ll appreciate being close to shopping too.

Mark Twain’s take on Lake Tahoe: “surely the fairest picture the whole earth affords” couldn’t be more “right on” this year. With water levels at their highest in recorded history, summer 2017 promises to be spectacular.

The perfect reason to make the Black Bear your vacation destination this year.
