Don’t let Tahoe in August pass you by

The clarity of the lake will astound you, the outdoor options endless, and as most folks know, it’s prime time right now. It never gets too hot here, in summer it’s just right, and the romantic rustle of the pines let you know you are in the High Sierra.

We like to swim at Kiva Beach, about 15 minutes from the Black Bear. Our two favorite kayaking spots are Emerald Bay, about an hour paddle and Sand Harbor, more of a drive but if you get there early…..fairytale….where all the promo shots of the Lake are always taken.

Then there’s the Lake Tahoe for hikers.  Desolation Wildnerness is just up the road and the Tahoe Rim Trail is a half hour away. Bike trails are ten minutes away and we like the ride to Richardson’s Bay.  Yes, we’re all about location at our cabin and you’ll appreciate being close to shopping too.

Leaf peeper alert

The aspen, willow and cottonwoods are just starting to turn their vibrant colors and the teeming crowds of summer have dwindled. Yes, it’s time to come to Tahoe to catch the magic and enjoy this special season. The water is still and clear, the Kokanee Salmon are filling the creeks and there’s plenty of room on the winding bike trails that circle the lake.

It’s particularly beautiful at Sky Meadows.  Pine needles carpet the grounds, the meadow is mowed and there’s plenty of room to play horseshoes or throw a football or frisbee. The good news: we have availability and our rates are super low.  You might even think ahead and lock in Christmas, winter wonderland time around here.

Summer at Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe delivers. Though occasional thundershowers yesterday, parking lots were overflowing, beaches were filled with colorful umbrellas and water toys were bobbing along the shore.  American flags adorned bikinis, hats, and waved from truckbeds. This is the place families have been coming to for decades, one of the best holiday destinations in California.  The Black Bear is taking reservatons for August. Don’t miss out!
